Fun is Key for Children Photo Sessions

One of the things I love the most about being a photographer is documenting how much children change each year. Recently, I had the honor of photographing Margaret James and Hallie, whom I’ve known since they were newborns, for the second time.

In my photo sessions, I love capturing the unique personality of each child. While it’s fun to photograph the changes, it’s also important to document what remains the same throughout the years. For these sweet sisters, it’s incredible to see their strong love for each other, even at such a young age.

As a mother of two young boys, I know how difficult it can be to photograph children. That’s why I’m always trying to come up with fun ways to make photo sessions as enjoyable as possible. For photo sessions of families with young children, I love handing out little surprises (or bribes) during photoshoots. The surprises are little trinkets – erasers, balls, finger puppets – but it’s amazing how much kids will light up when they earn a “treasure.” Most of all, I want these photoshoots to be fun, not a chore, for children and parents. The key to great, family photos is relaxed and happy children.
